I love the feeling during and afterward! Everything about sweating makes me feel like I have lost all of the weight that I have been striving to lose, and essentially, it’s one step closer to doing just that. According to Xu Qian, director of the infectious diseases department at the China-Japan Frienship Hospital in Beijing, sweating is a natural way for you body to rid itself of toxins and avoiding hot environments can actually cause more harm than good!
Let’s take a closer look!
Positives & Negatives: Natural Air versus Air-conditioning
Who doesn’t enjoy an air-conditioned room!? I sure do, especially after I take my son on our daily 4 mile hikes. Air-conditioning is a wonderful invention but it is absolutely necessary for your body to sweat some. Being cooped up in an air-conditioned place for too long with out any natural environment can lead to colds, coughs, and even pneumonia (yikes!). Aside from these symptoms, Dr.Xu state’s that the room temperature should not be more than 10 degrees lower than the environment outside.
Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, author of Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 4th Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements states that, “One of (the skin’s) functions is to eliminate a portion of the body’s toxic waste products through sweating.”
If you wanna sweat, sweat safely! Long bike rides, hikes up steep and long terrain and even a sunny 4 mile jog (like I do!) in the hot hot heat of Summer will be much more pleasant and effective when you bring a lot of water and sip often and lather that coconut oil! If you fail to hydrate while perspiring, you lose electrolytes and the body’s natural salts. Here are some refreshing drink ideas to get you started!
– Coconut water
– Water and lime water
– Mint/lemon water
– Mint and orange water
